Bangladesh’s Power Generation Capacity Rises to 32,332 MW

The country’s total power generation capacity has currently reached 32,332 megawatts. Of this, grid-based generation capacity is 28,919 megawatts, as informed by the Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, in the National Parliament.

The Minister provided this information on Thursday in response to a written question from SM Jahangir Hossain, a government MP from Dhaka-18 constituency, in the National Parliament. He stated that, as per the country’s daily power generation demand, it averages between 14,500 and 15,000 megawatts until March 2026.

Meanwhile, in response to a supplementary question from Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP for Cumilla-4 constituency, the Minister noted that necessary oil is being supplied to all power generation pumps. However, some supply challenges have emerged since the Iran war, which might have a temporary impact.

The Ministry of Power has stated that continuous technical and operational measures are being taken to ensure the stability and uninterrupted supply of the country’s grid system.
